1 Sharpen Pencils BEFORE the bell rings!!
Monday-Thursday, there is NO TALKING during the bellringer. Make smart choices please,  Bellringer Using the white copy paper on your desk, fold it into 3 equal parts, like a brochure. Write your name very largely in the center. On the corners of the name plate complete the following: Upper Left Corner - Name a place where you have spent some happy times. Lower Left Corner -  Name a person you admire. Upper Right Corner - Name something that you do well. Lower Right Corner - Name something you hope to do in the future.

2 Announcements You will have a quiz on Friday (8/25) over classroom policies and procedures. Fill in the blank Multiple Choice True/False Please try to have supplies by this Friday, so we can assemble our notebooks. Summer Reading Project is due 9/6/2017; Everyone is required to complete this assignment.

3 Homework Return the signature portion of your syllabus by Friday, August 25, This is your first homework grade of the year! 

4 Objectives SWBAT review class rules and procedures.
SWBAT practice an emergency drill. SWBAT begin creating a social contract.

5 Mrs. McCallum’s Rules 1. Follow directions the first time given. 2. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. 3. Raise your hand and wait to be called on, before speaking. 4. No foul language or racial slurs of any kind will be tolerated. 5. Be prepared for class. 6. No food, drinks, gum, or candy.

6 Emergency procedure practice
Let’s practice what do in case of an emergency, so we won’t all react like this! Fire Drill

7 Electronics All electronic devices (cell phones, iPads, tablets, lap tops, etc.) are to remain put away during class unless otherwise instructed. If you are caught using a device in class, I will give you one warning and ask that the device be put away. If you continue to use the device, I will confiscate the device for the remainder of the class period, and if necessary, alert parents and campus administration.

Hand written notes/certificates of encouragement Positive phone calls home Entered into raffle drawing for prizes Each marking period, I draw two student names from each class period bucket. Those students are eligible to receive prizes.

10 Quick Review! Is it okay to blurt out answers if Mrs. McCallum has not called on you? What is the proper procedure? Name 2 consequences for poor behavior. Name 2 rewards for exceptional behavior. How should you enter/exit Mrs. McCallum’s classroom? 5. What is Mrs. McCallum’s first class rule? 6. Who is responsible for make-up work? What is the procedure for getting make-up work? 7. If classwork is 3 or more days late, what is the highest grade that can be made on the assignment?

11 Attention Grabbers There will be times that I need to grab your attention quickly to give you information. Please become familiar with my “attention grabbers”, so we can maximize our time in the classroom. 1. Clapping sequences (I’ll demonstrate this.) 2. Call and response 3. Give me “5” procedure

12 Social contract Respond to each question on a separate sticky note:
Remember that “IDK”, or “I don’t know” are no longer acceptable answers. Think about your responses.  Social contract Respond to each question on a separate sticky note: How do you want to be treated by Mrs. McCallum? How do you want to treat each other? How do you think Mrs. McCallum wants to be treated? How should we handle violations of our social contract?
