Uncle Tom’s Cabin And The Civil War
Written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and published in 1852 in Ohio. By 1853, more than a million copies were sold around the Country, sparking controversy on slavery between the North and South.

The novel incorporated several stereotypes in the characters.
The story is of a runaway slaved named Eliza and her baby into the North before her Uncle Tom is whipped to death by Simon Legree, a Southern slave owner. The novel incorporated several stereotypes in the characters. Both the plot and stereotypes contributed to the boiling controversy of the book’s content and how it opposed slavery.
