3 Application Cycle School registers to use ‘Apply’
Students register and complete application with assistance from Mr McCready, Mrs Turney, Mrs Yeates and Dr Hall. Dr Hall checks all applications (returns them to applicant if necessary). Applications are ‘paid for’ and sent to referee. References are completed by teachers and approved by SLT. Dr Hall does a final check, adds the reference to each application and sends to UCAS.

4 Key Dates September – opening date for applications
23rd September – school deadline for Oxbridge, Veterinary, Dentistry and Medicine. 15th October – UCAS closing date for Oxbridge, Veterinary, Dentistry and Medicine. 21st October – school deadline for all other applications. 15th January – UCAS closing date for applications to be considered ‘on time’. 30th June – applications received after this date are entered into clearing.

9 Step 4 – UCAS informs applicants about offer from each choice
Applicant’s receive a letter confirming their personal details and choices. UCAS send copies of application to all 5 choices. Simultaneous consideration of all applications. All applications treated equally if received before . 15th January. Institutions will start to advise UCAS on decisions / offers made.

10 Offers may be - Unsuccessful - Feedback will be provided

Please note that these are early indications that providers have kindly provided to UCAS because teachers and advisers are extremely keen to see real examples of new Tariff point offers, so that they can understand the impact of the new Tariff. Leeds Beckett’s early thoughts are based upon a learner presenting three A levels: The business course was 300 points (3 x B = 3 x 100), now 120 (3 x B = 3 x 40). They have explained that they will give all entry requirements careful consideration to ensure they have fully thought through the impact of the repositioned AS and any other qualifications that may have changed under the new Tariff, for example small qualifications. This is to ensure their new Tariff entry requirements can accommodate the qualifications their learners typically present. Or …… BCC at A level (104 points) plus B grade in AS subject dropped (16 points). NB: Whilst the above accurately reflects the 2016 entry requirements in terms of the current and new Tariff, entry requirements for 2017 have yet to be set for any course at our university and thus may change before publication.

14 If an applicant has no offers…
Two further stages to gain a place – Extra – late February to end of June. Clearing – mid August onwards. Track Enables student to follow the progress of their applications. Quick way to find out about new offers. Students can reply to offers online.

15 Step 5 – Applicants reply to offers
A maximum of two offers may be held after all offers have been made. Applicant can make one of three replies – F – Firm Acceptance I – Insurance Acceptance D - Decline

16 Step 6 – Confirmation of offers
Exam results are issued – mid-August. Admissions staff check if applicant has matched the conditions of the offer. If yes, the student will be sent an official confirmation of their place. A 5 day trade up or adjustment period is available from results day for candidates who achieve better results than expected and exceed the conditions of their firm choice.

17 Getting Started You need a buzzword to apply as part of RHS – RHS2017.
Register with ‘Apply’ and complete the Personal Details, Additional Information, Education and Employment sections asap. Use Course Search on to look at entry profiles. Complete your Personal Statement. ‘Pay and Send’ your application to referee. Also, give a copy to Dr Hall – deadline is 21st October!

18 Personal Statement - 2nd Draft
Firstly explain your motivation for the course or area of study and what you hope to get from it. Then expand on your particular interests within the subject and the personal skills you have identified which make you a suitable applicant. Discuss your work experience, how it affected you and any skills you may have developed or observed. Did anyone inspire or influence your career decision?

19 Don’t copy a Personal Statement – Similarity Detection Service.
Shift the focus back to the kind of person you are using extra-curricular activities to evidence your skills and qualities. You must show reflection and ability to learn. Finally, link back to your career choice with a summary of why you want to do the course and how you can meet its demands. Don’t copy a Personal Statement – Similarity Detection Service.
