Context Winter is coming. How is it celebrated around the Francophone world? Interpretative task (Monday) Examine the brochure of the Strasbourg (France) Christmas market. Then, watch a video showing how this annual event has been adapted in Québec (Canada). Interpersonal task (Wednesday + Thursday) Every year, the Strasbourg Christmas market highlights a culture other than France. In a 3-minute individual oral interview, discuss ways in which your culture celebrates winter in order to convince the organization director (your teacher) to highlight it. Be ready to introduce yourself, talk about where you are from, and share your favorite winter-related activities and traditions. Presentational task (Friday) Based on what you’ve learned, create a local winter market. Hold a table presenting a cultural practice from the French-speaking world that might interest local residents. Think of winter-related topics (e.g., traditions, crafts, stories, recipes). Prepare a script that includes a description of the cultural practice you are presenting as well as a survey question for your visitors. Be prepared to read it in two minutes. Bring a visual: a photo, an illustration, an object, etc. Check spelling and grammar.
