Organic Chemistry/ Monomers/Polymers
2
What is organic chemistry?
The study of all compounds containing the element CARBON Natural elements: make up 96% of the mass of a human: CARBON, HYDROGEN, OXYGEN, NITROGEN (C,H,O,N) Trace elements: only needed in small amounts, called “minerals” (phosphate)
3
1) Circle the picture on the left of your notes that is correct 2) Explain Why
4
Polymers (many units) or Macromolecules (large)
Monomers (one unit) are made from elements. Polymers are made from 100’s or 1000’s of smaller units called monomers. Elements bond together to form monomers which bond together to form polymers.
5
Label the picture on your notes with monomer and polymer:

Label the picture on your notes with element, monomer and polymer:

7
1) In the white space on the left side of your notes create your own example of a monomer to polymer analogy.
