TWO major changes in the Hazard Communication Standard 2012 (HCS or HazCom):
1 – New Label Elements 2 – Safety Data Sheets The new label elements and SDS requirements are designed to improve worker understanding of the hazards associated with chemicals in their workplace.

DANGER - Used for more severe hazards. WARNING - Used for less severe hazards. There will only be ONE signal word on the label no matter how many hazards a chemical may have. If one hazard warrants a “Danger” signal word and another warrants the signal word of “Warning”, then ONLY “Danger” should appear on the label.

SAFETY DATA SHEET (EXAMPLE)
SECTION 4: First-Aid Measures SAFETY DATA SHEET (EXAMPLE) Instructions for an untrained responder to an individual who has been exposed to the chemical. Necessary first-aid instructions by relevant routes of exposure (inhalation, skin and eye contact, and ingestion). Recommendations for immediate medical care and special treatment needed, if necessary. Description of the most important symptoms or effects, and any symptoms that are acute or delayed.

SECTION 8: Exposure Controls and Personal Protection
Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Mask, goggles, gloves, protective clothing, respirators etc.) Exposure limits Engineering Controls (e.g. ventilation controls)

OSHA & GHS Pictograms There are 8 specific Pictograms that will be used to describe the hazards
