2 Bellwork: Monday, December 5, 2016
PERIOD 2: Find this Bellwork from last week… I believe it has a reindeer stamp. “List at least five grievances against the King of England that led the colonists to declare independence.” Have you seen any of your grievances play out in the movie The Patriot? If so, highlight them and describe the situation in the movie. If not, return to your text and write down three more grievances that you HAVE seen enacted in the movie.

Finish watching the film The Patriot As you are watching, remember to take note of events that occur in the film that relate to the two speeches by Patrick Henry and Benjamin Franklin and the Declaration of Independence.

Write down what you think your English grade currently is. If you are failing, what can you do to pass? If you feel that you will not pass, tell me why. If you have a passing grade, what must you do in the next two weeks to maintain it? Finally, tell me how you feel about your performance this semester in English class.

Provide an opinion, help find quotations to back your own (or another person’s) opinion (if you agree with it). You are expected to not only take notes that will help you with your essay (in class on Thursday and Friday), but also to participate in discussion and share ideas verbally with your groupmates. On Thursday and Friday, you may listen to music, and you may look something up on your phones; however, you may NOT text or facetime your pals, play a game, or participate in any other activity than that which is assisting you with your essay.. You will also not be permitted to talk. NOW is the time to talk, to be engaged, and to gear up for part one of your semester exam.

16 In-Class Semester Final Essay: How would you have responded to the Declaration of Independence if you were (a) the King of England (b) someone lacking basic human rights (c) a Native American (d) an average colonist with a family and some land? Write your exam essay to the prompt. You will submit this essay before you leave class tomorrow! No exceptions. You will need: 1. A strong introduction with thesis statement. 2. Write about THREE of the four groups (King George, groups without rights, Native Americans, and average farmer). Each of the three will have its own body paragraph. 3. Don’t forget to cite textual evidence in your body paragraphs. 4. A strong conclusion which ties everything together.
