Expository Writing Expository writing is a type of writing that is used to explain, describe, give information, or inform. The text is organized around one topic and developed according to a pattern or combination of patterns. Examples: Descriptive, Sequential, Compare/Contrast, Cause/Effect, Problem/Solution

What is the purpose of an Expository essay or text?
The purpose of the expository essay is to explain a topic in a logical and straightforward manner. Without bells and whistles, expository essays present a fair and balanced analysis of a subject based on facts—with no references to the writer's opinions or emotions.
