The Legend A legend is what helps you read a map
Legends contain symbols that tell you about different parts of the map Legends can tell you about lots of different things Natural Features Rivers, Lakes, forests, natural resources Man Made Features Roads, parks, miles

Compass Rose A compass rose helps people to determine the direction of a map A compass rose shows North, North East, East, South East, South, South West, West, North West

Hemispheres Hemisphere
This describes the earth split into two equal halves Equator The imaginary line that divides the north and south halves. Prime Meridian The imaginary line dividing the earth east and west.

Time Zones International time zones were established in 1884
Each time zone represents 1 hour (there are 24 time zones) Each time zone represents 15 degrees of longitude The prime meridian is the starting point for all time zones At the 180 degree mark we have the international date line

Seven continents Seven continents
Australia, Antarctica, Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Africa

Oceans There are 5 oceans in the world
The Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, Southern (Antarctic)
