2 Ephesians 5:17-21 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

3 Basic Premise of Ephesians 5:21
Believers are exhorted to evidence their being filled with the Spirit in the context of the body of Christ, displaying humility, accountability and enthusiastic involvement with one another.

4 To “be subject” to one another
To be subject to one another is the expectation that we are acting like Jesus in our relationships to one another.

5 I. Practice humility “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 2:5) “3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3-4)

6 Matthew 11:29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.”

7 Matthew 23:12 “Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.”

8 II. Practice prioritizing the body of Christ
“He [Jesus] is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.” (Colossians 1:18)

9 John 17:20-21 “20 I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.”

10 Christian essentials You need the body of Christ
The body of Christ needs you “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:10)

11 III. Practice giving the Lord a day of service
“23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 NOT FORSAKING our OWN ASSEMBLING TOGETHER, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:23-25)

12 IV. Practice living like a Christian daily
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

13 “Be hospitable to one another without complaint.” (1 Peter 4:9)
V. Practice hospitality “Be hospitable to one another without complaint.” (1 Peter 4:9)

14 VI. Practice generosity
“10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 CONTRIBUTING to the NEEDS of the SAINTS, practicing hospitality.” (Romans 12:10-13)

15 2 Corinthians 9:7 “Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

16 The Christian and “his” money
We need to remember that the money we have does not technically belong to us. It all belongs to God, we are simply stewards of what He has given us. Give to the Lord first.

17 VII. Practice being an exemplary church member
“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31) Dorcas Acts 9:36…“this woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and charity which she continually did.” Acts 9:39… “When [Peter] arrived, they brought him into the upper room; and all the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them.”

18 Basic Premise of Ephesians 5:21
Believers are exhorted to evidence their being filled with the Spirit in the context of the body of Christ, displaying humility, accountability and enthusiastic involvement with one another.
