Biodiversity The number of and variety of organisms found within an ecosystem or region. And The number of and variety of ecosystems found within and beyond the region.

Biodiversity Biologically diverse ecosystems: Healthy Complex Stable

Succession Nature tends to increase diversity over time.

Monoculture The opposite of biodiversity. The growing of one species.
Examples: a lawn, wheat field, or corn field.

Monoculture Species are identical Few complex food webs.
Disease can spread quickly. Often requires use to pesticides to stop nature from biodiversifying.

Resilience The ability of an ecosystem to remain functional and stable in the presence of disturbances. The greater the diversity: Increased plant cover. More resistant to invasive species. More disease resistant.
