Los infinitivos Infinitives end in –ar, -er and –ir.
They are the basic form of a verb. You can use the infinitive, or you can conjugate it.

Conjugating verbs You conjugate a verb by breaking it down into its forms. There are 6 forms in Spanish. We will not be covering the vosotros form. It is used in Spain only.

Steps to follow take off the –ar the word that remains is the stem
add the correct ending to the stem This works with all regular verbs.

Las terminaciones yo o tú as él/ella a usted
nosotros amos ellos/ellas an ustedes

hablar- to speak yo hablo (I speak) tú hablas (you speak)
él/ella habla usted (he/she speaks) (you (f) speak) nosotros hablamos (we speak) ellos/ellas hablan ustedes (They speak) (you all speak)

There is a verb for every subject.
The verb must always agree with the subject. Remember to match the correct ending with the subject.

Ejemplos Yo hablo español. I speak Spanish. ¿Estudias tú álgebra?
Do you study algebra?

Ella toca la guitarra. She plays the guitar. Nosotros practicamos deportes. We practice sports.

Mis amigos y yo bailamos.
My friends and I dance. Los profesores enseñan. The teachers teach.
