6 MIAA Middle School Waiver Rules
May participate on JV teams only unless there is no JV program (ie., winter track) in which case they are eligible for varsity participation. Middle School student cannot displace a high school student on a team roster. MIAA waiver by grade must be granted for each individual sport. 8th grade girls’ basketball 8th grade boys’ basketball 8th grade girls and boys for winter track **** 6th Grade students **** Basketball – Allowed to try out for middle school team only. Winter Track – Ineligible

7 Paper work complete? Athletic Digest & Student Handbook give rules and expectations, including eligibility requirements (on line) Annual physical – Valid for 13 months ONLY. 9 DVC Athletic Event Code of Conduct
Respect and courtesy for all athletes, coaches, officials and spectators is expected. Taunting, profane language or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. This includes the use of face paint, body paint and noise makers of any kind. Fan and/or parental coaching from stands/sidelines is not permitted. Spectators are expected to be positive, enthusiastic, and supportive to all players, coaches, officials and opposing teams and fans. **Non-compliance with the above code may result in removal from the event.**

13 Chemical Health Rules Use of illicit drugs, alcohol or tobacco products of any kind is prohibited. MIAA rules: 1st offense = 25% of contests; 2nd offense= 60% of contests; penalties carry over seasons and school years WCS rules – during school event: 1st offense = dismissed from team for balance of season; 2nd offense = balance of school career. WCS rules – non-WCS events/after school hours: 1st offense = minimum 4 game suspension; 2nd offense = minumum 10 game suspension; 3rd offense = suspended for all athletics for balance of school career.

14 Conduct & Language Use of profanity, vulgar language or offensive comments at any time, and under any circumstance will not be tolerated from athletes, coaches or spectators Body language or gestures will be treated the same as the spoken word The word “Christian” on our uniforms and on our school needs to mean something that our guests and opponents will understand is different and desirable. We all must at all times: Demonstrate good sportsmanship Demonstrate hospitality Honor our opponents Honor game officials Hold each other accountable for our actions

15 “Electronic Devices” & Media
I-pods, cell phones, I-phones, etc. Not to be used when involved in team events unless approved by coach. Instagram, blogs, Facebook, etc. Be careful about what you post on social media. Nothing directed at opposing teams/schools or of questional nature. If in doubt, DO NOT POST! Respect for each other’s privacy and reputations

16 “Rules for Engagement”
Rules for engaging a coach with questions and concerns. Modeled after the Matthew 18 principle: First – Athlete is to request meeting with coach to express concerns. If no satisfactory resolution occurs, then… Second – Parent is to contact coach to request meeting. This must not be done immediately after a contest. Contact coach after at least 12 hours by phone or . If after meeting with coach there is no satisfactory resolution, then….. Third – Parent and/or athlete is to contact Athletic Director to request meeting. If no resolution, then contact the principal.
