3 If this is to define how we must prepare our learners at otamarakau School for the future, then there are ‘must haves’ that play a key role in the success that otamarakau School needs to deliver: Recruitment of the right staff Who in turn are responsive to and engage in the culture and values of our organisation here at Otamarakau School. Dedicated to corporate image of school. Visionary Leadership • Sufficient resources to support key learning contexts with OS School/classroom/mobile devices/outdoor environment/individual and group activities/sporting – physical activity/cultural programmes. • Collaboration – tapping the innovative capital of staff to share responsibility; design; IT programme and skill development – Finance Management. •Distributive leadership among curriculum/key learning and teaching initiatives – this builds strength; capacity and sustainability; leaders among leaders; which in turn: - If this is to define how we must prepare our learners at Otamarakau School for the future, then there are ‘must haves’ that play a key role in the success that Otamarakau School needs to deliver: “To Build a High Performing Professional Practice which in turn enhances our Learning Community”. 4 THEREFORE MOVING INTO 2017 Key Area 1: Raising achievement and accelerating progress in reading, writing and mathematics at Otamarakau School. Key Area 2 : Building teacher capability and improve the quality of teaching and learning, including conditions of learning at Otamarakau School. Key Area 3 : Developing our school as a professional learning community. WE ARE AWESOME!

Reading Together Programme Community of Readers Stop, Drop & Read Tuakana Teina Reading Programmes Literacy and Numeracy Forums for Parents Setting up our Makerspace Room in Term2 Yr 7 & 8 Students Leadership Camp to Queenstown See – Saw / Values – A.R.O.H.A. NZ Post – Writing Postcards to students at another school.

7 Key area 3 – professional learning community
We are passionate about what we do. Sharing our learning with other teachers. Teachers are passionate about helping their students learn.  They form strong relationships with their students.  Are clear about what they want their students to learn.  Monitor their impact on students learning and adjust their approaches accordingly.  Teachers actively seek to improve their own learning (Hattie, 2015). Ensure professional learning development on evidence based strategies  is made available to all teaching staff. Embed and refine strategies for measuring progress prior to, during and after the learning session through effective assessments. Develop student agency through questioning strategies to maximise progress in learning for all students. Improve the use of technology to enhance learning.

8 THE OTAMARAKAU SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
Otamarakau School is without doubt, a school of distinction. New Teacher Break out room/resources Literacy and Numeracy Forums for Parents Setting up our Makerspace Room in Term2 Celebrate Matariki with a school hangi. Ag/Hort Day Yr 7 & 8 Students Leadership Camp to Queenstown Values – A.R.O.H.A.

10 conclusion 2017 is our year to be better than great, it is our year to be awesome Thank you for coming this afternoon. Special thanks…… The home/ school partnership is a crucial factor in each child’s success and being here tonight is the first step on this journey. We encourage you all to be involved, know what is happening in the learning life of your child and most importantly, continue to ask questions. Come and see us, come and talk with us, come and be part of your child’s school. To Our Board of Trustees. They are a Board who understand the importance of your role and take great pride in your position and our school. Our PTA, thank you in advance for all the work you will be doing in the year ahead. You are a wonderful asset to our school and we thank you for the many hours of self-less work you contribute.
