4 There are many steps that should be taken when researching, so that students are not simply cut and pasting. When these steps are used deeper learning takes place.

5 You should think of the Internet as only one source of information among many.
Use a combination of information sources. WWWWW Who? Who wrote this information? What? What is the purpose of this site? When? When was this information written? Where? Where else can I confirm this information? Why? Why do I need this information? Image Credit: Library & Learning Resource Centre

Most credible URLS: gov; edu ; sch Treat with care or caution: org; .com; net; co.uk So when you get your list of results, how do you choose which ones to click into? Discuss the pros and cons of each.

Learning Logs and Referencing What can we use on the student portal? The students have all been given reference lists to use for learning logs or homework. They are also saved on eLockers. They don’t need to write out long websites, they can cut and paste them into a word document.

14 What can we use on the student portal?
Referencing Generator What can we use on the student portal? We are using the Harvard style of referencing. Our focus is to ask students to ‘have a go’ at referecning and we are not being particular about the format in the Junior School. We are just delighted if they understand about being an honest researcher! Only Year 6 students have been shown the reference generator so far.
