Cysteine-Cysteine Chemokine Receptor 5 – Delta 32 (CCR5-∆32 Allele)
Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) enters a cell via its CCR5’s, “But in people with receptors crippled by the CCR5-delta32 mutation, entry of HIV by this means is blocked, providing immunity to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) for homozygous carriers (1% of Caucasians) and greatly slowing progress of the disease in heterozygous carriers (20% of Caucasians)”. Hütter et al 2009. Stanford Tech 2015.
3
Because of the deletion of the 32-base-pairs, the receptor no longer functions, and the progression of AIDS is slowed. The protein is smaller and is not located on the outside of the cell.

The Need for Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation
AIDS is the fifth leading cause of death among persons between ages 25 and 44 in the United States. There is currently no cure. About 47 million people worldwide have been infected with HIV since the start of the epidemic. The Institute of Human Virology 2015

Bone Marrow Transplants & Rejection:
High Cost Burden Covered by Insurers for Outmoded Technology

With GVHD, the newly transplanted donor cells attack the transplant recipient’s body. However, GVHD can be prevented if a patient receives his or her own cells (autologous cells) during a transplant. Chances of occurrence of GVHD are high % when donor is related, 60-80% when donor & recipient are not related.

Alan Mathison Turing, OBE, FRS
A British pioneer in the field of computer science, Turing was known for Nazi codebreaking during World War II, but is also famous for his morphogenesis article (sited over 8,000 times), where he predicted that identical cells arranged in a ring will interact chemically and change. This change is similar to cell differentiation during embryonic growth.

Einstein Eschews Peer Review
Hate peer review? So did Einstein. After years of submitting articles in Germany without a peer review requirement, Einstein submitted an article titled “Do Gravitational Waves Exist?” to the 1893 established Physical Review journal, which was critiqued by Howard Percy Robertson, Princeton University Professor of Mathematical Physics. Irritated by the professor’s critical review, Einstein withdrew the paper & never submitted another article to the journal again.
