1 Grab Your Learning Logs
Answer 2 of the following 3 questions: How do you think probability affects your every day life? How do you think casinos use probability in their favour? What is the difference between choice and chance?

2 Organizing and Representing Outcomes

3 Tables A coin is flipped and a six-sided die is rolled. These are two independent events. You can use a table to represent all the possible outcomes. From the table there are 12 possible outcomes. The sample space is (H,1), (H,2), (H,3), (H,4), (H,5), (H,6), (T,1), (T,2), (T,3), (T,4), (T,5), (T,6)

4 Tree Diagrams A coin is flipped and a three slice spinner is spun once. You can display the outcomes in a tree diagram. There are 6 possible outcomes with a sample space of (H,bear), (H,elk), (H,salmon), (T,bear), (T,elk), (T,salmon)

5 Experimental vs Theoretical
Experimental Probability – the probability of an event occurring based on experimental results Theoretical Probability – the expected probability of an event occurring Example: You decide to flip a coin and you get the following results: H, T, T, T, H, T, H, H, T, T, T, T, H, H, H,T Exp Prob of Heads = 7/16 = 44% Theor Prob of Heads = 1/2 = 50%
