St. John’s Church of England Primary School Newsletter
- Learning and Caring Together - Issue 4 Friday 29th September 2017 Harvest Thank you to all who joined us today in Church to help celebrate Harvest. A huge well done to all the children who sang and spoke so beautifully during the Service. We have all learnt so much about the Harvest time of year thanks to Experience Harvest. A massive thank you to Robert and Karen Corbett and the team they assembled at Church and to Mrs Thompson, on the school side, for co-ordinating this successful event. More thankyous are due for the kind donations of food and money which will help families near and far. Football - Our football season is now well underway at St. John’s with a tournament and match this week. The team was sensational on Wednesday in their first matches together, putting in some fantastic performances against many larger schools. Highlights include an excellent 0-0 against Ainsdale St John’s and a battling 2-1 defeat to a very good St. Jerome’s side. Player of the tournament was Finn-Lee. Yesterday, saw our first league match against St. Philip’s. A slow start saw us give away an unassailable lead and despite holding the opposition well in the latter thirds of the game, we unfortunately came away second. Player of the match for St. John’s was Oliver with a smartly taken goal. Good luck to our teams this week: we have a HOME league match against Ainsdale St. John’s on Wednesday (probably at Stanley) and the girls in Years 5 and 6 are playing in a tournament on Thursday. TEMPEST Photos - Children had their photos taken on Tuesday in school and you should have received a proof of the photo for ordering. I must apologise for the lack of warning; I mistakenly thought that I had added the date to the back of the newsletter but found this was not so – sorry for this oversight. Please return any orders back to school ASAP so they can be sent back to Tempest free of charge. Wellies! - Mrs Brown has asked again if anyone has any spare wellies they may be able to donate to gardening club – as bright and colourful as possible as they will be used as planters like those already on display! E-safety - Innocent searches online can lead to not so innocent results. But parental controls can help keep your child safe. Parental controls can be used to block upsetting or harmful content, control in-app purchases or manage how long your child spends online. And the good news is parental controls are really easy to set up. Visit for more information.
