7 We are very tolerant in Britain.
Down to our deepest historic roots, Britain has always been a diverse nation with people arriving here from all over the world! Much of our diversity comes from the British Empire, which at its height governed over one quarter of the world’s population – that’s 458 million people! After the British Empire collapsed, people from the Commonwealth migrated to Britain, and countries such as the Caribbean and India were invited to help strengthen our workforce. The expansion of the European Union has seen a number of Europeans come to the UK in recent years.

8 Diversity in the UK As people from around the world arrive in Britain, they all contribute their own ethnic and cultural influence to our society...

9 Modern Britain - A mix of food

10 Modern Britain - music and dance

11 Modern Britain - mix of sports

12 A mix of fashion

13 Ethnic diversity Ethnic diversity has made our society rich in culture. Can you imagine Britain without all the amazing food, music, dance, sports, fashion and people that diversity brings?

14 Without being tolerant as a Nation to ethnic diversity some England football players wouldn’t live here!

15 At Peartree Spring Primary
With diversity comes a need to respect difference! At Peartree Spring we are very tolerant of others with different beliefs, opinions, religion and ethnicity. Do you want to live in modern Britain where we can be who we want to be, listen to the music we like, eat the foods we enjoy, dress how we like to dress? Then we must remember that the person next to us has right to do the same.

16 At Peartree Spring Primary we are proud
It is important to remember we are ALL different and it is our differences that make us unique and special, and that makes modern Britain interesting. Be proud and confident about yourself. Respect and celebrate difference in others.

17 Remember... If we didn’t have freedom to be who we want to be and were not tolerant about difference, Britain would be a boring place...

18 At Peartree Spring Primary we celebrate difference
Everyone dresses, acts, eats, thinks and speaks differently. Then celebrate your friends differences and think about how it makes them unique and special and adds to our diverse and interesting culture in modern Britain!
