What is a Leader? A leader in Windyknowe is anyone who uses their voice in the right way. Leadership in Windyknowe means respect for others and confidence to suggest changes to improve our school for everyone who uses it.
5
Why do we need leaders? Leaders can help people make decisions.
It can be hard for a large group to agree without leadership. When a group of people has to decide on something, a leader can help them choose what to do, or where to go.
6
A leader can decide to do what is best for people in a group.
This is a fair way to make a decision.
7
Here are some of the ways we are leaders in Windyknowe PS
Helping your classmates and people around you Taking ownership of being the best you can be in your learning P7’s guiding their buddies to make good choices Different leadership jobs: pupil council, eco, head boy and girl… Problem solving and sharing different opinions

Our Values We always try to do our best
We stand up for what is right and speak out when things are wrong We take responsibility for our own actions We show respect We share and are fair and friendly around others We show patience, tolerance and try to solve problems peacefully We understand that it is important to tell the truth so that others trust us We care about others and know people in our school care for us We look after our world so that everyone can enjoy it
9
Respect We have learned that Respect is acting in a polite and caring way. A good leader is someone you respect, but who also respects you. Good leaders make people want to follow them because they have good ideas and they show and earn respect.

19
Our Next Steps at Level 1? Class charters to be 3-tiered showing the actions of adults and learners. Increase the use of the language of rights. Refer to charters more regularly. Make global links to involve children in joint topics promoting awareness and differences.
20
What did Unicef say at Level 2? 2014 - 2016
Teachers are committed to teach rights. Strong support from parents/guardians. Children's knowledge of rights and their ability to use them in primary and beyond. Confident pupils who know their views and are heard and valued.

What we are most proud of in Windyknowe at Level 2?
Rights Respecting School is “who we are, it’s not about one person…..” All children get the chance to be successful and have their voices heard Global citizenship is taught creatively across all classes The amount of learning we have taken part in linked with SHANARRI One parent said: “…since learning about rights, my daughter’s confidence has increased, she is more respectful towards others and we talk more about events on the news, this is nice to see!”
29
What now…? Keep up the good work linked with rights
To promote rights to other schools Teachers to plan more learning around rights Further develop knowledge and Understanding of Global Goals To campaign more and think about issues we could tackle independently
30
Taking responsibility
In Windyknowe remember to take part and know how you want to be treated. Be proud of the responsibilities you have in school and the success that comes with it when we work together.

Our Special Visitor…
32
Our Special Visitor… The Children and Young People's Commissioner in Scotland is Tam Baillie. Tam's job is to help you understand your rights and to make sure those rights are respected. His goal is to make sure all children and young people in Scotland are as safe and happy as possible.
33
Our Special Visitor… Tam works towards his goal by:
listening to children and young people like you asking people in power – like Members of the Scottish Parliament – to think about how new laws might affect you helping you learn more about your rights speaking out if children and young people are not getting a fair deal.
