Earth’s place in space Eratosthenes’ epiphany The summer solstice occurs once a year in December when the Sun's track across the Australian sky reaches its highest point. It is the day that has the most daylight hours of any in the year. The winter solstice is the day of the year that has the least daylight hours of any in the year.

In groups of 2 or 3, use Pic Collage or Explain Everything to create a labelled flow chart with six different stages of the day. Your flow chart must track the Suns movement across the sky over Randwick from sunrise and lead into the evening when you track the Moon until 10pm. Be sure to provide the time of day and a brief description of the space objects positions.

Step 3: Enter the size (in cm) of the Sun. Be sure to make the Sun quite large so that the other planets are not too small to create. E.g. a 100cm diameter Sun means Mercury is .35 cm in diameter. Step 4: Convert the ‘Orbit Radius’ from metres to centimetres to get the distance each planet is from the Sun.
