Interesting facts about chlorine
If you have ever had a prescription medicine, driven a car, or drank out of a tap you have most likely been exposed to chlorine. On the periodic table chlorine is in the halogen group and it’s the 2nd lightest halogen gas after fluorine. Free chlorine on earth is very rare. Chlorine combines with almost all elements to create chlorine compounds called chlorides. Chlorine is the 3rd most abundant element in Earth's oceans (about 1.9% of the mass of seawater is chloride ions) and the 21st most common chemical element in the Earth's crust.

What happens when chlorine enters the human body?
When chlorine enters the body as a result of breathing, swallowing, or skin contact, it reacts with water to produce acids. The acids are corrosive and damage cells in the body. Do you sneeze a lot when coming out of the swimming pool?? Well that’s because of the chlorine. Sneezing, coughing, soreness of the throat, skin and eye irritation are all things that occurred when your body is being exposed to chlorine.

Why did I choose chlorine as my element for this project?
I chose chlorine because we use it everyday and I wanted to learn more about why we do. It’s one of those elements you hear about all the time but really don’t look into it. Thank you for watching my presentation hope you enjoyed. -Haley
