BIOGAS IN FRANCE Erasmus+ NEW ENERGY FOR new EUROPEAN citizens

What is biogas ? Biogas is a mixture of different gaSes produced by the decomposition of some materials such as manures and excrements .

How is biogas used? Biogas can be compressed, the same way natural gas is compressed to CNG, and used to power motor vehicles. In the UK, for example, biogas is estimated to have the potential to replace around 17% of vehicle fuel. It qualifies for renewable energy subsidies in some parts of the world. Biogas can be cleaned and upgraded to natural gas standards, when it becomes bio-methane.
5
ADVANTAGES 1. Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as indicated above; 2. Significant reduction of fine particulate emissions compared to diesel and gasoline; 3. Reduction of certain microbes in agricultural effluents . 4. Substitute for other exogenous energies (fossil and nuclear), a source of income for the farmer who saves on his energy costs and / or, increasingly sells his energy;
6
DANGERS The dangers of biogas are mostly similar to those of natural gas, but with an additional risk from the toxicity of its H2S fraction. Biogas can be explosive when mixed in the ratio of one part biogas to 8-20 parts air. Special safety precautions have to be taken for entering an empty biogas digester for maintenance work.

agri BIOMéTHANE
8
A central of biogas The Agri biomethane company was the first in Vendée to inject the gas directly into the city gas network. The plant is fueled in two thirds by the excrements from four farms and the rest is fueled by agri-food by-products from surrounding companies.
