Biblical Warnings and the Seriousness of Contending For Truth
Jude 5-7 Presented
2
(Jude 1:1-7) Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Once Fully Knew [5A] Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, Recalling What Was Learned More Than a History Lesson Keep your position of responsibility. Mind carefully the obligations given to you by God.

Help Me Remember Help me remember what you taught me yesterday
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing O to grace how great a debtor Daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love; Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above.

Living in View of Eternity
The Missing Stanza O that day when freed from sinning, I shall see Thy lovely face; Clothèd then in blood washed linen How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace; Come, my Lord, no longer tarry, Take my ransomed soul away; Send thine angels now to carry Me to realms of endless day. Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Jesus Saved and Destroyed
5B: Jesus who saved a people out of the land of Egypt afterward destroyed those who did not believe. Jesus saved them and then destroyed them because of their unbelief. Defectors of the faith. Similar to the parable of the seed sown on bad ground.

Written for our instruction
1 Cor. 10:6-12 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty- three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, [10] nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

The Angels Jude 1:6 [6] And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—

Sodom and Gomorrah Jude 1:7
[7] just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Summary 1) The teaching of scripture must be continually before us.
2) Apostasy is claiming to know the Lord and then walking away in disobedience. 3) We were created by an all knowing creator; God knows best how to lead us. 4) Biblical history has many examples given to us as warnings.
