What is SAMR The SAMR (Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition) Model offers a method of seeing how computer technology might impact teaching and learning.
7
Problem of Practice My problem of practice is my concern that I hover too often in the Substitution and Augmentation end of SAMR and do not incorporate enough Modification and Redefinition in the way I integrate technology with my teaching.
8
Addressing my Problem of Practice
One method was incorporating LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 robot kits in my classroom. The kits provided students with the opportunity to make many robot versions, program/code them, and share ideas/creations with an online community.
9
My research question: How does working with LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 robot kits springboard my students and my teaching practices into modifying and redefining the way we learn and teach with technology?
10
Communicating About Our Experience
We created a documentary that can be viewed on our YouTube channel. We also shared photos and videos during our experience to The Holler, Twitter, and YouTube.
11
Were we Successful? We wrote the ARI mini grant stating that success would be attained if this activity led to more M & R experiences. I believe that the LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 robots were successful in that we have used technology throughout the year in ways that we have never used technology before. The following slides show some examples of how we incorporated M & R experiences.

Students do research for video projects.
28
Students video and edit projects that are uploaded to YouTube and shared on Twitter and The Holler.

Microcredential I have turned in the submission requirements for a microcredential in Modification. I am currently waiting on confirmation. If I am successful in earning microcredential credit in Modification I will gather the student work samples to submit for a microcredential in Redefinition.
