BSc Statistics at the University of the West of England – September 2008 to July 2012
Sandwich Placement Year at the Office for National Statistics (ONS) within the Mortality Team

4. Top tip for getting a good job..
Experience within a working environment prior to graduation
Talk to your employers prior to even applying
If you can go on a placement year go for it!
Speak to people already working within the company and try to gain inside knowledge
Always have a back up plan

5. Placement Year Office for National Statistics as a Research Officer
51 week placement which was extended for 3 months over the summer
Mortality Statistics – gruesome as it sounds very interesting!
Helps in final year originally 2:2 achieved 2:1!
Provided me with inside knowledge about the civil service
Provided me with Dissertation data so it was a topic I had personal interest in not just on a list

Apply early between September and January prior to graduation
Speak to lecturers and ex students to make sure your applying for the right jobs for you
Use the UWE website to practice graduate scheme tests they are harder than you think!

Minimum grade of a 2:2 to apply
Competitive Salaries within the starting region of 23k per year

Working within the Health information team to analyse health information for the UK Armed Forces
Extremely rewarding and interesting
Providing support to our military personnel and making a difference to improve conditions
Each day is different
Lots of potential to develop within the department

2 year training scheme with the option to make it 3 years including a 1 year masters
Assessment Centre February 2013 including a situational judgement exercise
Open to anyone with an Engineering degree or from a Scientific background in particular Physics

Work life can be quite daunting but it can also be very rewarding so look forward to starting your career don’t leave the applications to the last minute.
