9 75 % of CERN territory is a green area
2. Environment at CERN Research facilities (experiments and related facilities) Industrial facilities (compressors hall, labs, workshops, etc.) Services (fire brigade, restaurants and cafeterias, hotels, banks, post offices, kindergartens, etc.) 75 % of CERN territory is a green area (includes fenced-off and non fenced-off areas around CERN as fields, forests, etc.). The largest number of orchid «Ophrys Apifera Huds» in Geneva region is located in Meyrin site Family of 13 fallow deers in Prévessin site Many other wild and domestic animals… 21/09/2017 EDMS

10 2. Environment at CERN 112 online radiological monitoring stations on- and off- site 24 online conventional monitoring stations on- and off- site Laboratory measurements: ~3000 radiological analyses and 2000 conventional analyses per year 21/09/2017 EDMS

11 3. Environment and You at CERN
Limit and sort waste! Catering areas (Restaurant 1) Administrative areas Office paper Electronics Industrial areas Batteries Aluminium cans PET (plastic bottles) Metals, wood, cardboard, inert waste, bulky, etc… 21/09/2017 EDMS

12 3. Environment and You at CERN
Limit water consumption! Not all taps shut off automatically. You must turn the taps off yourself! Save energy! Turn off lights and switch off electrical equipment when you don’t use it. Protect rivers! Don't throw any waste in the manholes… it will end in a river! Choose environmental friendly transportation! Walk, bike or take public transportation. Protect nature! Don't collect orchids or disturb animals. 21/09/2017 EDMS
