1 If I Had A $ Project! By: Emma Varghese

2 Introduction! This project was assigned to me to express my ability of financial literacy and how money works in the real world. From the beginning, I was given a note from my Grandma Irene, saying that she passed away. The note described how she wisely saved $ to kindly provide wants and needs for her grandchildren. But, the money was not provided to spend lavishly. She wrote a list of expenses that I needed to spend my million dollars on including taxes and fees. These expenses include: College tuition, a house, family vacation, vehicle, and charitable organization. The rest of the money after spent on these needs can be used for whatever expense. In this power point, I will describe how I spent my money on these needs, how much money was needed, and any information that is needed to state this presentation clearly. I hope every slide the eyes ever met gives supporting information and evidence to give you an great time while you review this presentation. ENJOY!

3 Inheritance! I inherited $1,000,000 from grandma Irene! Balance = $1,000,000/$1,000,000

4 House! The list of expenses states that the house I buy must be under $300,000, but the 18% tax could increase the price to be above $300,000. The original price for the house I bought was $274,900. To include the tax, I multiplied $274,900 and 1.18 to find the total price of the house all together. $274,900 x 1.18 = $324,382 The total price for my house is $324,382 HOUSE ADDRESS/ INFORMATION ADRESS: Hundred Bridge Lane, Sugar Land TX 77498 My house has 3 beds, 2 full baths, it is 2,320 sq. ft. and 0.27 acres lot! Balance = $675,618/$1,000,000

5 Vehicle/ 2016 Scion IA! I chose this car because it was a reliable price and not too pricey to take out a lot of money from my inheritance. The original price for this car was $15,700. The list of expenses says that 8% must be for tax, title and license above the price of the vehicle so, I multiplied 15,700 and 1.08 to find the total price of the car including tax. $15,700 x 1.08 = $16,956 $16,956 is the total price for my car! Balance = $635,062/$1,000,000

6 Charitable Organization/ Donation to end childhood cancer!
I donated $100 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! Balance = $634,962/$1,000,000

7 College Tuition/DeVry University!
The college I carefully chose was DeVry University in Oakland. Grandma Irene’s note clearly says that 4 years of college tuition is needed. One year of college tuition in DeVry University costs $20,965. Since I need 4 years, I multiplied $20,965 and 4. $20,965 x 4 = $83,860 The total for 4 years of college tuition is 83,860 but, Grandma Irene has said that 10% has to be for inflation, books, and fees, so it will come up to 83,860 multiplied by 1.10 to reveal the total cost for college tuition all together. $83,860 x 1.10 = $92,246 $92,246 is the total cost for college tuition for DeVry University. Balance = 542,680/$1,000,000

8 Family Vacation Part 1 ! The hotel I booked was Disney’s all star movies resort. I decided to stay on a 2 day vacation. For the hotel, the price is $112 per person each day.(4 people are going including me). Since me and my family are staying for 2 days, I multiplied $112 and 8 to know the total price for the hotel altogether. $112 x 8 = $ 896 $896 is the total price for the hotel. I purchased a 2-day ticket with admission to park 1. ( The website I used told me the total price for a 2-day ticket.) The total price for a 2-day ticket was $195 The total price for park 1 is $195 I added $195 and $865 to know my total price for my hotel and my park. $195 + $865 = 1,091! I also, I booked a flight in Disney Land Resort’s location for 4 travelers: 1, ( The website I used automatically showed me the price for 4 travelers) $1, ,091 = 2, (This is the price for the hotel, park, and flight tickets).

9 Family Vacation Part 2 Let’s resume our vacation plan! I found a dining plan on the website: $14.99 (under adult) $ $20.99 (per adult) In my family there are a total of 2 kids but 1 is an infant so I found the total price for only 1 kid. $ total cost for 1 kid. (I chose the lowest possible price for the adults in my family.) $15.00 x 2 = $ for the 2 adults in my family $ $30.00 = $ total cost for the dining plan! 2, is the total cost for my flight tickets, park, and hotel. I added the cost of the dining plan to know the total cost for my vacation! $ 2, $44.99 = $ 2,468.79! $2, is the total cost for my vacation ! Balance = $540,211.21/$1,000,000

10 What do I do with the rest of my money?
I put the rest of my money in my savings account! I wisely decided to save my money for later use…. Even though your savings account gives you less than 1% interest, there are much more advantages about it!

11 Conclusion! Learning this topic in class was so much fun and it helped me find my point of view in the world of financial literacy! This project actually gave me a chance to show how I would deal with these situations and it will SURELY help me in my future! I thank Mr. Silk for spending his time to teach me and my class such a useful topic! This is one of my most favorite subject in math and even though it was just adding and subtracting, I managed to find some challenges in it too! I especially thank Grandma Irene for saving $1,000,000 for her grandchildren! Not everybody is lucky enough to get a grandma like her ! I can’t wait to learn higher and more advanced topics in financial literacy! I hope the future 5th graders find this topic fun just like I did! THE END!
