Our homework packet is sent home every Monday and should be returned to your teacher on Friday. Students need to read for 20 min. each day and record it on their reading log attached. Your child must read 60 words per minute by the end of May.
This week we will learn:
Reading: All about Long a
Math: Skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, more, 10 less
Science: 3 Types of Energy: Light, Sound, Heat
Social Studies: Our Environment
We hope you had a wonderful Winter Break!! It doesn’t seem like we’ve already made it half way through first grade. We are very excited to begin our New Year by studying all the long vowel sounds. We will be sending home some spelling words for your child to study. These are only example words. We want the student to learn the spelling patterns and be able to apply their knowledge to an assessment.

We are in need of Glue, both liquid and stick. Please send some to school by the end of this week if possible.. and thanks for all you do!
It is essential for your student to be at school on time and ready to learn every day. When a student is tardy they miss the spiral review that is a vital part of the day. After Christmas vacation school can be hard and tiring for youngsters so it is key that you stay positive and encouraging. It is also vital that they get enough rest and a good breakfast. Breakfast is also served at school. Please contact the office for more information on this service. Our 1st grade classes who have 100% attendance for a 6 weeks get a popcorn party or a hot chocolate party.
