Who are The Poor?

Luke 4:18 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Revelation 3:17 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—

Psalm 40:17 17 But I am poor and needy; Yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.

Psalm 82:3 3 Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Psalm 109:31 31 For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, To save him from those who condemn him.

The Blessings

Psalm 41:1-3 Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. 2 The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. 3 The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

Proverbs 14:21 21 He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he

God’s Perspective

Deuteronomy 15:7-8 7 “If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which The Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother,

Deuteronomy 15:7-8 8 but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs.

Deuteronomy 15:10-11 10 You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand.

Deuteronomy 15:10-11 11 For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.’

Mark 14:7 7 For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.
