About the NC Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NCLBPH)
Public library for North Carolinians who are blind, low vision, physically disabled and learning disabled Serve anyone who cannot use standard print materials due to visual or physical disability Serves institutions (NC public libraries, schools, assisted living facilities) Officially 200 years old on December 25, 2012 State Library for many years was the State’s primary cultural and heritage institution - collecting the publications of state government and about North Carolina Mid 20th Century (1960s – 1990s) – Served as “public library of NC” providing books and services for public libraries in the state Cultural exchange program As Public and University Libraries developed and expanded through the state this role went away. We are now back in a role as a cultural and heritage repository

Select materials for patrons Resolve patron problems with book players Answer other questions and provide reference and referrals First point of contact for our non local patrons. Talk about the different types of services…nightly auto select etc. First line of defense for troubleshooting machine issues. New patron consultation. Online catalog for browsing and selecting in all formats

Equipment NC Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
Digital Talking Book Players loaned for free On loan for as long as the patron uses NCLBPH services Special accessories, such as headphones, pillow speakers, etc Free repair and/or replacement DTBMs are loaned for free. Patrons can have 2 a t time to account for sending one back for repair. Headphones, pillow speakers. Biggest repair issue is with the batteries. Other issues include bad motherboards and machines that have had liquid spilled on them.
