“Here is a tree rooted in African soil, nourished with waters from the rivers of Africa. Come and sit under its shade and become, with us, the leaves of the same branch and the branches of the same tree “ - Robert M. Sobukwe -

Percentage distribution of dwelling ownership status for households living in formal dwellings
The percentage of households that fully owned the dwellings they inhabited increased slightly from 52,9% in 2002 to 61,4% in 2008, before declining to 55,3% in 2014. This increase was accompanied by a decrease of about five percentage points for households that partially owned their houses, and a slight increase in the percentage of households that rented accommodation. Households that maintained ‘other’ tenure arrangements increased from 11,7% in 2002 to 12,4% in 2014. Source: General Household Survey. Avail:

Through a partnership between the DPSA, PIC, GEPF and SA Home Loans,
we are able to provide special home finance opportunities to government employees who are GEPF members. This is done under the umbrella of the Government Employees Housing Scheme (GEHS) for which SA Home Loans is the home finance partner.

BUYING A HOME IS AN EXCITING INVESTMENT
Buying a home is different to nearly all the other purchases we make – you don’t buy a home every day. There are things that you need to be aware of when going through the process of purchasing a property.
6
GET YOUR AFFAIRS IN ORDER
Pay your bills on time every month in order to ensure that you have a good credit rating. Try to clear as many debts as possible before applying for a home loan as we look at your existing debt obligations when assessing whether or not to approve a loan application.
7
WHAT CAN YOU AFFORD? The purchase of a new home comes with additional costs, other than your monthly bond installment, which you may not have had to pay as a tenant. i.e. Rates payable to the municipality Levies (if you’re in a complex/flat) Electricity and water Household insurance (for the contents of your home) Homeowner’s insurance (for the building) Repairs and maintenance (looking after a garden, painting the house, plumbing problems etc)
8
PROPERTY COSTS In addition to the purchase price of the property, there are a number of upfront costs involved in buying a home. It’s important that you’re aware of these additional expenses so that you can save up the money or arrange a loan to cover these costs.
9
PAYMENT TO INCOME As a rough guide, your bond instalment should not be more than 25%-30% of your family’s combined monthly income, before tax and deductions.
