7 Why Have Transfer Committees?
ONCAT has funded nearly 200 pathway development projects so far. We see an opportunity to help to take transfer and student mobility in Ontario to the next level of maturity, foster regular, on-going discussions that will work in harmony with the individual projects. From success in other jurisdictions we know that such committees can help create new opportunities for students, keep existing agreements up-to-date and relevant, foster collaborative and collegial relationships among disciplinary colleagues throughout the transfer system.

8 How to Select Disciplines and Begin Transfer Committees?
No regulatory authority to mandate participation Evolve TCs out of existing groups (e.g., heads groups, project groups) High-volume/high-demand disciplines – business; engineering & technology; health Use of data from ONTransfer.ca database to identify where PWs already exist Coalition of the willing – who may be most likely to join a TC

9 Transfer Committees — A New Endeavour
Committees So Far Logistics Efforts began 2016 Business (C & U) Engineering (C & U) Game Education (C & U) English (U only) History (U only) Future: Community Services; Psychology; Sociology; IT ONCAT acts as chair/ secretary Meeting space & catering Travel support but many use teleconference Invite chairs, heads, sometimes registrar or admissions Funding for spin-off projects

10 Early Observations Easier to engage C & U in disciplines where there is higher correspondence b/w diplomas and degrees (e.g., Business, sciences) Humanities — perception remains that C & U courses are not comparable in rigour, level, instructor qualifications Difficulties of dealing with accredited professions, e.g. Engineering (CEAB)

11 Grass Roots Projects That Are Helping Bridge the Divide
Game Education Matrix (GEM Project) Outcomes-based bridge from diploma to BA History (Lakehead University) Comparing outcomes of engineering & engineering technology credentials (Queen’s University) Learning Outcomes for Transfer (LOFT) Publication Project

12 Questions?
