14 Dymkovo clay dolls take their name from the village of Dymkovo near Viatka. The hand-made figurines are dried for a few days in the open air, fired in an oven or kiln, whitewashed with a solution of chalk and skimmed milk and painted with distemper egg yolk paints. The techniques are simple but the effect is pure folk craftsmanship. These toys depict the merchant and upper class from 19th century Russian villages and towns.

18 Nested Dolls The traditional symbol of Russian culture is Matreshka which is a set of nesting dolls. Every doll (except the last one, the smallest) consists of two parts. The smaller doll inserts into the bigger one. Thus dolls (sometimes up to 30) can be combines inside the biggest doll-Matreshka.

19 Matreshka Matreshka is a wooden doll, usually in a colorful dress with smaller ones fitted into it. The doll is generally recognized as a symbol of Russian national art. The predecessor of this Russian doll was brought to Russia from the island Honshu. The Japanese affirm that it was an unknown Russian monk who carved the first doll of this kind on island. The first Russian matreshka appeared in the late XIX century.

21 Russian Lacquer Boxes Lacquer miniature paintings and boxes from Russian Palekh, Mstera, Kholui, and Fedoskino are known all over the world. Traditions of lacquer painting came to Russia from the Western countries – German, England, France, and Holland – in 17 century. Since the beginning of 19 century there were many Russian native factories that produced lacquered articles and painted in own style. Old traditions still exist; they were much developed by artists of all times and now can be seen on present time goods.
