2 Objectives Students become aware of different roles they play, what roles they feel powerful/powerless, and what roles that can best define who they are. Students understand their strengths and weaknesses, and decide what they can and want to do about the “missing piece” of their life. Students learn to value themselves the respect the diversity of people they meet.

6 The Missing Piece Please read and preview “The Missing Piece.” Check out the book online at search for information about the author, and read responses and critics to the book. After reading, please answer some of the questions below.

7 Question Do you like the book? Who the book is intended for?
What is your missing piece? What do you want to do about your missing piece? What can you do about it? Are you still you without the piece? Could you fill the empty place with something else, like with a different piece? Are you somebody else’s “missing piece”?

How might you view other people’s faults differently after reading this book? How could the story end differently?

11 Writing: I am special statements
Please write “I am special statements.” Examples are: I am special because… I am special at home because… I am special in my university because… Then students share what they have written.
