Learning Objectives Discuss Human Factor Internationals (HFIs) recommendations for Text Integration Utility (TIU) Templates Become familiar with the various types of patient data that may be included in a template Identify the various parameters used for template creation and editing Examine the types of patient data fields that may be used in templates Design a diabetes template by performing the steps listed on the template script Identify the steps used in importing templates for editing and use

Template Creation Most templates will be created using the graphical interface. Users can also create their own templates. Shared templates can be created by anyone in the Clinical Coordinator user class. Templates can also be imported from other sources.

TIU PERSONAL TEMPLATE ACCESS – Who can make personal templates. The choices are: READ ONLY NO ACCESS FULL ACCESS If the system level is full access, all users can make personal templates

TIU TEMPLATE ACCESS BY CLASS – Same as other parameter, but by user class. Choices: FULL ACCESS READ ONLY NO ACCESS

TIU TEMPLATE PERSONAL OBJECTS – This parameter controls which objects a user can insert into a personal template.

TIU FIELD EDITOR CLASSES Who can create template fields. At System level, this should be set for Clinical Coordinators.

Template Fields Streamline “data entry” portions of note and help provide some decision support Edit Box Combo Box Button Check Box Radio Button Date Number Word Processing Text Hyperlink

Edit Box Fields A phrase of text which, by default, will drop into note, and that can be edited (overwritten or deleted)

Combo Box Fields Also called “Drop-Down” Default value chosen

Button Fields Allow selection of one item by cycling through each item as the button is pressed. If the Default field is blank, the button will initially appear without any text

Check Box Fields Creates a check box for each item
More than one item may be selected Default item will initially be checked If multiple items are checked, the text will be separated by commas

Radio Button Fields Creates a radio button for each item
One ONE item may be selected The default item will initially be checked Can be unchecked, leaving no selection

Separate Lines Property
Check Box and Radio Button fields have a Separate Lines property, which will display each check box or radio button on a separate line of the dialog. Has no affect on generated text Before Separate Lines After Separate Lines

Date Fields Date Fields have six different date types
Default will evaluate to the current date/time

Number Fields Number fields allow numeric values between a specified range. They always have a default value. Minimum and Maximum Values can range from –9999 to +9999

Word Processing Fields
Word processing fields allow an unlimited amount of text to be entered (scroll bars will appear if needed)

Hyperlink Fields Hyperlinks fields are text-only fields that allow linking to Web pages. Hyperlink text is either the Default (if specified) or the actual URL address Can be “display only”

Text Fields Text fields provide a mechanism for embedding predefined (noneditable) text into the dialog Can be “display only”

Dialogues Portions of templates can be grouped for better organization/flow
