1 The EMT Oliver Keeble, SA3 CERN

2 Where does it fit in? Developers Prod/PPS Testing EMT - EGEE '06

3 Summary of activities The EMT (Engineering Management Team) manages short term release priorities for Glite 3. prioritising updates scheduling changes defining developer priorities On the basis of TCG and middleware objectives defined over the longer term Feedback from Production PPS Certification Developers Its main output is a change to the middleware, from a patch to a service up to an entirely new service JRA1 steering is still done under the EMT but this is internal and will not be reported on here. EMT - EGEE '06

4 Change tracking Users Site Admin Developer JRA1 SA3 SA1 Find Problem
Integrator GGUS Tester Find Problem TCG Human Filter Feature Request Realistic Feedback Savannah Initiation SA3 Endorsement Track Bug Shopping Release Manager Request Fix EMT Suggestion EMT - EGEE '06

5 Representation There are representatives from
JRA1 understanding of priorities testing feedback push patches, solve build issues SA1 feedback on outstanding issues SA3 coordination with those participating in the release process fix timescales and implications Condor useful communication with users, JRA1, WMS testers Regularly invite participation of experts Meet twice a week, Mon / Wed EMT - EGEE '06

6 Tracking issues / change requests
EMT as it is now grew from daily meetings during the preparation of gLite 3.0 The EMT maintains a list of current high priority bugs which are developers’ top priority List is available through the EMT home page This status is independent of the severity defined for the bug A tracked bug Is a developer priority Is explicitly cited in cluster manager's weekly reports Will result in a priority patch EMT - EGEE '06

7 Patch and release status
EMT has a home page This has a lot of useful info on patch status Which patches are in certification? Which patches are available to the PPS? Is a bug being attended to as a priority? From Savannah What bugs does a patch fix? Does this bug have a patch? Has this patch been built? All answers are there, linked as savannah queries and thus up to date Links to the EMT timetable and minutes from the meetings. EMT - EGEE '06

8 Discussions Some examples of discussions Future topics Build on SLC4
WMS testing and consequent patches – why did certain jobs fail, what are the appropriate condor parameters… APEL on gLite CE and blah configuration Move to java 1.5 Should a bug fix be backported from 3.1 to 3.0? Future topics How can we introduce a new licence to the middleware? gLite distribution for SLC4 Timing and composition (UI/WN first?) EMT - EGEE '06

9 Summary The EMT (Engineering Management Team) manages short term release priorities for Glite 3. You can check release and patch status on the home page EMT - EGEE '06
