1. Democratise HF Radio Make it available to everyone
Use open hardware and open software to drop the cost of HF radio for $10k/site to a few $100/site
Initial Goal is messaging over 100km
Publish designs and encourage ”pirating” of hardware to lower manufacture cost
Experiment with idea of local manufacture, could be assembly, set up and flashing, or even actual soldering

2. Supply Chain Woes People are sick of expensive 1st world technology
It breaks and cant be repaired. No one understands it
Supply chain is a huge problem – it's not about technology
Tanzania: 8 weeks to clear customs
Timor: Horrendous courier costs to those who can least afford it, shipping costs more than hardware
Theft, unreliable mail, government interference, several days walk, proportional cost, local repair and maintenance

4. Emails over 100km I built this in about 1 hour
Hand assembled, basic tools
Parts from e-waste, e.g. old TVs, PC power supplies
Free and open software, laptop, router, smart phone
I'm pretty sure I could train anyone to build this
We can develop tools and systems to test and train and debug
We can make it easy to set up and use

6. Education Local people building their own radio networks
Low cost and local repair will result in much wider use.
Many more people will get connected
Local industries will spring up “the wallah”
Back up and reliability
Empowerment cannot be understated
