1 Unit 5: Quadrilaterals & Polygons
Lessons 6.2, 6.4, & 6.5: Classifying Quadrilaterals & Polygons, Properties of Quadrilaterals

2 Quadrilaterals In groups of 3 or 4, name every type of quadrilateral and determine a definition for each type to include a definition for a general quadrilateral. Make sure that your definitions are biconditional. After, make a Venn diagram that shows how all the quadrilaterals are related. (Note: There are 6 subtypes for quadrilaterals.) Goals: To find the sum of the interior or exterior angles in a polygon. To identify the properties of various quadrilaterals. Essential Understandings: The sum of the interior angles of a polygon is equal to (n-2)180˚. The sum of the exterior angles of a polygon is always 360˚. Quadrilaterals have certain properties that help to identify the type of quadrilateral and can be used to solve problems involving quadrilaterals.

3 Quadrilaterals A quadrilateral is a polygon with 4 sides.
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with 2 pair of opposite parallel sides. A rectangle is a parallelogram with 4 congruent interior angles. A rhombus is a parallelogram with 4 congruent sides. A square is a parallelogram with 4 congruent interior angles and 4 congruent sides. A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of opposite parallel sides. If the non-parallel sides are congruent, it is Isosceles. A kite is a quadrilateral with two pair of consecutive congruent sides and no opposite congruent sides. Goals: To find the sum of the interior or exterior angles in a polygon.
