Notice for all pupils You should have received a letter from me detailing your minimum target grades (MTG) – one for the end of this academic year for each subject and one MTG for the end of Year 11 for each subject. If you have not received your letter, please let your tutor know so as they can your name to Mrs Faldo. Your parents will be receiving a letter about your MTGS very soon. Don’t forget……these are MINIMUM target grades and I look forward to celebrating as many of you meet them or exceed them. When this happens, you will be set a new higher challenge target grade (CTG).

3 Message from the Head Teacher
On Monday 18th September we will be opening our school to prospective Year 6 pupils. Tours will be run around the school during the day with a spectacular open event in the evening. This is a very special day for us all and I thoroughly look forward to showing our school to our guests.

4 Message from the Head Teacher
Please see correspondence below from the Mayor’s Office regarding the Young Mayor Elections 2017:- Welcome to the 11th Young Mayor Election 2017, where each year the young people of Newham elect a Young Mayor and Youth Council to represent their views and advocate on their behalf. The Young Mayor and Youth Council deliver a programme of manifesto commitments that this year have included an effective mental health awareness campaign, improving access to work experience for students and a free Summer festival bringing the borough’s young people together at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Last year saw 76% of the borough’s young people vote in the election, which was the highest turnout of any Young Mayor Election to date. This year Voting Day will take place on Tuesday 10th October and the result will be announced on Wednesday 11th October. Taking part in the Young Mayor Elections is a chance for your students to be involved in a borough wide democratic activity and your candidates have a fantastic opportunity to run their own campaign. This includes leadership training, support in developing their ideas and one to one assistance from the Young Mayor’s Team at the Council.

5 Message from the Head Teacher
I have been thoroughly impressed with the excellent way in which Key Stage 4 pupils have started the new school year. Lessons are focussed, with pupils striving to do well – well done!

6 ………………Global Partnership/British council news……………..
We welcome back our Sister School CMI on our new Academic year They are talks between our two schools about more future International projects involving the year 7 and 8 mainly. Some of the projects will be generated by sharing and exchanging students ideas in both schools. Students at RDCS and CMI would like this Academic year to create murals promoting “Peace and Harmony around the world” using Citizenship, Geography, History, Art and DT as their main inspirational subjects. Students also want to create a Food and Craft market in their schools to generate enough money for their travel student fund. This way representatives of each school would be able to travel for visits to England and India. Both our schools want to carry on with the SKYPE live lessons especially in DT lessons in order to master our pilot International curriculum for learning without frontiers. We were used as an example of Educational excellent exchange practice by the British Council which made us International Ambassadors schools this year. Very Good news for all of us! 11 Praise from teachers for Year 9
Message from Miss Tinsley – Head of Year 9 Praise from teachers for Year 9 Two teachers have taken the time to write to me to praise you – well done! From Mr McGoldrick Can I say how impressed I was by the maturity shown by 9B1 during our introductory lesson for Citizenship & PSHE for Year 9. The majority of the class demonstrated a mature and sensible attitude when asking questions about and discussing relationships and sex. This shows me that the class is mature and ready for learning about this important and personal topic during Year 9. From Miss Turle: I just want to say that both of my Year 9 history classes (9B3 and 9A3) have been fantastic so far this term! Some of the pupils who are doing particularly include, Jannay, Lukenya, Francesco, David and Andreea. They are enthusiastic, keen to please, and focussed. Well done!

15 Message from Miss Tinsley – Head of Year 9
Homework Year 9s have started their GCSE work in many lessons and so you should be getting at least one piece of homework every night, which should take you up to one hour to complete. Don’t forget, you can use the Library after-school to help you get your work done. There are computers, it is quiet and the shelves contain so much information to help you.

16 Message from Miss Tinsley – Head of Year 9
Make every lesson count! Now you are in Year 9, every minute of every lesson matters even more. Your GCSE work has started in some subjects – this has to be your focus. We need your best behaviour every lesson; you do not have the time nor the right to disturb any other student’s learning. Please ensure you are working hard every lesson to fulfil your potential. Be your best EVERY day! Am I HELPING the class to learn, or am I STOPPING the class from learning?

17 Message from Miss Tinsley – Head of Year 9
Treat EVERY WEEK like it is ANTI-BULLYING WEEK. You KNOW what bullying is. It is being rude or cruel about others. It is pushing or hitting others. It is talking about people behind their backs. It is encouraging others to make fun of people. It is sending rude messages to or about others. You KNOW BETTER. Make it stop and use your power for good! School is should be a calm, positive and safe place to be; this means YOU have to play your part to keep it that way by being nice to others.

18 Message from Miss Tinsley – Head of Year 9
Behaviour – reminder We have a ‘Hands Off’ policy – it means hands off AT ALL TIMES. There are no exceptions outside the classroom, especially when you are on the corridors at Break and Lunch, lining up for class or waiting in line for your lunch. No hugging, no high fives, no linking arms, no holding hands, no slapping, no grabbing each other, no pushing, no play fighting. The only times in lesson that there might be any physical contact would be in a practical lesson, like Drama or PE. Other than that, please keep your hands to yourself.
