2 Effects The effects of this flood are that :-
Houses got swept away and all cars and buildings were torn apart of had been moved by the power of the flood.

3 Eyewitness Account Sarah Harrison "The trees started coming down and we were scared we were going to get taken with it so we just had to let it all go." Sarah talks of watching her posessions get swept away as the waters hit Thirlby Victims' reactions "Total devastation. It just happened so quickly... we were overwhelmed, we just had to get out and watch our life float away." Listen to the reaction of flooding victims from across the county. Mary Welford "If you looked out of the window here, you wouldn't have a clue what was happening 100 yards down the road, where there could be people fighting for their lives." Mary Welford is a hotel manager in Helmsley, her account describes the situation at 2330 Sunday 19th June. Alan Bell "The problem here has been the speed with which it's hit everybody, that's caught a lot of people out." Alan Bell is from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, he spoke to BBC Radio York's Elly Fiorentini just after midnight on Monday 20th June. Jane Bowes "We're not just talking houses here, roads have been ripped up in some villages, trees floating down becks and cars being pulled on top of gate posts." Jane Bowes is a reporter for BBC Radio York, her report comes from Thirsk.

4 Action Taken The action taken was all the house’s were rebuilt and they tried to make sure that it wouldn’t happen again.

5 Characteristics Drowning incidents
The waters threatened to engulf the bridge over the River Rye - the only way into the town. "The water is right up to the top of the bridge, I've never seen anything like it," she said. "But everyone will rally round in Helmsley, we shall recover very quickly from this." The weekend's heatwave led to four drowning incidents as people tried to cool off in the sea, in lakes and in rivers. Two men drowned in Helsley while the body of a 23-year-old man was pulled from the sea near the coast of yorkshire A boy of 16 died in hospital after being pulled from the River Thames at York. The flood waters forced many residents to leave their homes and spend the night in the town hall. In Yorkshire, drivers were forced to abandon their cars and climb trees to escape rising waters after the River Rye burst its banks.
