DATE INTRODUCTION: Why have I invited EWB to come present here? Engineers can be leaders Well skilled, practical and influential Fits with our ethics - Personally think it is a worthy cause and in my 3 years with this organization, I have been impressed by their approach + enthusiasm + entrepreneurship. What we do: Overseas Long term volunteers Build capacity Help design programs Get implementation right Short term volunteers Execute projects Learn Thulasy: Thulasy graduated from Chemical Engineering at the U of A in 2005 and has been doing integrity management at Pangea Solutions Inc . - Been involved with EWB in Canada for 3 years Currently the Co-leader for the Calgary Professional Chapter Will spend the next 1 to 3 years working in Africa in partnership with a local development organization Thulasy Balasubramaniam Long Term Volunteer

7 What we do: In Canada Building leaders for social change
Outreach – schools, workplaces, public University Engineering Curriculum Member Education OUTREACH Highschools – interactive presentations to introduce the concepts of international development and appropriate technology Workplaces – workshops and presentations to engage working professionals Public – events such as EWB day to raise awareness in the general public UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING CURRICULUM Changes to engineering courses to expose students to international development issues. E.g. At the University of Calgary, the first year design course has a component that asks students to design appropriate technologies for situations our EWB volunteers face in the field in Africa. MEMBER EDUCATION In-depth discussions and education sessions on development for members who want to learn more
