1 CollabLand Software for digitization of Survey Maps for Computerization of Land Records

2 Survey Systems commonly found in Indian states
Chain Survey Theodolite Sy. Total Station Shape Files Others

3 Survey Systems Chain Survey Legacy method; Using Chain and Cross-Staff
Done for a group of holdings under common survey number (Say upto 25 Sub-Divisions) Survey generates 5-Column Ladder Table entered in Field Measurement Books (FMB) Maps created w.r. to Local Coordinates, needs to be mosaiced to get Block / Village Maps Used in erstwhile Bombay and Madras Presidencies

4 Survey Systems Theodolite Survey
20-th Century method; Angle and Distance Done for a vast area under a Block / Khandom containing hundreds of holdings (Sy. Nos.) Directly provides Block / Khandom Maps; Maps of holdings NOT stored separately Maps often created w.r. to Local Coordinates; Needs to be mosaiced to get Village Maps Used in Urban area: More holdings; Less area

5 Survey Systems Total Station Survey
Modern method; Computes point coordinates w.r. to a common global origin (Bench Mark) Done for a vast area under a Block / Village Can directly create Maps of Village or Block or even of individual holdings (land parcels) Mosaicing is accurate and easy as Maps are drawn w.r. to global coordinates (Grid Points) Found in Urban / Hilly area; Suitable all over

6 Survey Systems Shape File Method
Not a survey system; It’s a digitization method Used where only the area maps are available; and no survey data is available to digitize Shape files are created by scanning the maps Accuracy would be lost in this process !!! Considered as an easy digitization technique even if survey data is available. Not advised ! Alternative is to conduct Re-Survey of the area

7 Survey Systems Other Systems / Methods Plain Table Method (Goa)
Grid Method (Rural Delhi) Choke Tippans (Gujarat) ….. ….. ………… ……….. Maps digitized using other software like: AutoCAD, LisCAD, Siemens, Vision Lab Proprietary Solutions; Multiplicity of formats; No way to integrate; Maps virtually unused !

8 Genesis of CollabLand Much felt need by the states for:
A single software for all Survey systems and needs A software for drawing Survey Maps, to be incorporated in the existing software for non-spatial Land Record Data. A cost effective solution for deployment upto Village level. A system to provide the citizens, the Extracts of Maps of their plots on demand at an affordable price. A solution where the Government holds the technology, for further enhancement and support.

9 Version History 1.9 (Oct 2011) Mosaic Enhancements; Lakshadweep
