Welcome to year 2 An overview of what we are doing in year 2 this year.

What do we hope our children will achieve this year:
Greater independence a high standard of well-presented work to develop as confident inquisitive learners

Behaviour Rewards: Team points, Superstar certificates, Postcards home
Golden Work, REDSHOE Choice Time: Friday (no toys please) Good to be Green: for more serious behaviour problems Quiet Room: for work not achieved to an acceptable standard or unfinished work.

Routines Doors: opening at 8.55am.
Bags: reading folder, PE bag and a lunch box if required. NO LARGE BAGS PLEASE Water Bottles: Named please (children are encouraged to remember to take these home at the end of the day so that they can be rinsed and refilled fresh ready for the next day). End of day arrangements

Routines PE and PE Kits: PE on Tuesday, Games on Wednesday
Kit: shorts, tee-shirt in team colour, socks, trainers, tracksuit bottom and sweatshirt. Swimming - tbc Please name all PE kit and swimming kit including towel. NO JEWELLERY TO BE WORN FOR ANY PE OR SWIMMING ACTIVITY Fitness Friday uniform

Routines Forest School;
Throughout the year we will be having a greater focus on forest school activities. This will include timetabled slots, with ours being in the Spring term. This will be on a Tuesday or a Friday so we would ask that the children come equipped with appropriate clothing for being outdoors. As well as this, there will be a scheduled forest school themed day e.g. Den Day

We encourage healthy eating – so KS1 have fruit, which is provided.

Curriculum As in year 1 we will be studying a variety of topics which will cover the current Primary Curriculum. We will be keeping the lid on these topic areas as we like to make an impact with our topic launches.

Drugs Awareness: Looking at drugs and that some are helpful and some are harmful. That some are used as medicine and what we can/can’t put into our body. This is also linked to our theme where we look at food and what would be harmful. Year 2 Residential: Year 2 will be away for 1 night at Delamere.

Homework; Daily Reading Spellings/phonics learning challenges
Home/school projects On-going mental maths strategies e.g. doubles, number bonds Abacus maths User names and passwords will be given out when required

Assessments Very informal and children are assessed throughout the year There are some set tasks but not presented as a test Judgements are made and internally and externally moderated in the summer term. The whole process is cumulative.

Keeping in touch: Home/school links book Parents evenings Reports Year 2 Curriculum letter We also have an open door policy but please be aware we may have other commitments in the shape of staff meetings or clubs.
