2. What if Money Grew On Trees ?
What if Questions are questions that take students out of their comfort zone. They provoke and challenge students, promoting deeper thinking. Often it is the first time that students have drilled down and been challenged by everyday ideas. It also forces them to be part of wider discussions where they are exposed to other perspectives, values and belief systems.
They are suitable for Years 1-13 students. Students love them and the thinking that comes from them. They can also be constructed by students around your inquiry topics. Send one home every Thursday night that is linked to your learning for a dinner conversation topic with parents. Students can come back and share their ideas the next day. Parent/Whanau groups enjoy the link with their children's’ learning, and schools have had very positive feedback about this sharing.

Breaking down the barriers through conversations
Discussions around the National Strategy
Feedback after workplaces have used this resource is very encouraging. One facilitator was approached the next day by a course participant and was asked to help them re refinancing their mortgage. This was in a lower decile community and they felt overwhelmed at going to a bank. Even though the facilitator was not an expert in mortgages they were able to help find information. They were also able to make an appointment to the employee was able to meet with someone who had the expertise on site during a lunch hour.
