1 Changing Strings on the Guitar
Steel string acoustic guitars

2 Changing all of the strings:
When you pop a string: Strings will break from time to time. When this occurs simply replace it. It may be wise to change all of the strings shortly after replacing the broken one. Changing all of the strings: When you have removed the strings it is wise to wipe the fingerboard with a rag. Also, keep in mind that the strings should not be off of the instrument for too long, as the tension of the strings pull on the neck. Without that tension the neck can be warped.

3 Some important tips to remember
The strings hold the tension of the neck. Therefore, strings must remain on the guitar in order to maintain the proper tension on the neck. Always be mindful of the gage of the strings on your instrument. Gage is based based on the diameter of the first string. The standard is generally 12-gage for an acoustic guitar. 10-gage is more common for an electric guitar. Combining gages will most certainly warp the neck or cause strings to break more frequently. Stretch the strings. New strings have a tendency to continue to expand, causing the instrument to go flat. Stretching the strings will speed up the process. Be sure to place the right string in the right position. Electric strings are often color-coded.

4 Step One: Removing the string
First loosen the string (if it is broken this is not necessary). Next, remove the bridgepins. You should Use wire cutters for this. At this time you are able to remove the string from the guitar.

5 Be sure to press the bridge pin all the way down.
Step Two Insert the replacement string into the hole on the bridge and insert the bridge pin into the hole over the string. The groove in the pin should be facing the neck. Be sure to press the bridge pin all the way down.

6 Step Three Pull the string up the finger board. Be sure that the string lies in the grooves at the bridge and the nut. Push the end of the string through the hole in the corresponding tuning peg. Pull the string all the way through. Be sure to guide the string so that it stays in the grooves. Pinch the string approximately one inch beyond the tuning peg. Bend the string 90 degrees up. Slack the string back through the hole up to the crease.

7 Step Four Begin tightening the pegs. Be sure to hold the string down so that it wraps around the peg properly. Strings should always rotate to the outside of the head.

8 string with a wire cutter.
Step Five Clip the excess string with a wire cutter.

9 Step Six -Tune the string -Stretch the string -Tune the string again
-Repeat until it holds its pitch.
