Program Model Review Guidelines
In order to serve our students, any model must: Meet the Washington state requirements Meet the needs of all gifted students regardless of race, gender, special needs, ELL, etc. Meet the needs of students who qualify in just one or multiple areas Kathleen Re-title slide per slide #9?? “Service Model Review Guidelines”
13
Program Model Review Guidelines
There are obvious learning outcomes for HiCap students Must be inclusive, not exclusive
14
Program Model Review Guidelines
In order to serve our students, any model must: Take into account potentially small numbers of students in any one school Be manageable within the district budget (additional HiCap students do not generate any additional revenue from the state) Meet both academic and social needs Kathleen Re-title slide per slide #9?? “Service Model Review Guidelines”
15
Research Based Models There are a variety models of research-based service delivery for HiCap students who do not go to a magnet school. We will focus on the following models: Kathleen
16
Research Based Models Self-Contained Classrooms at Home School
Differentiation/Flexible Grouping in the General Education Classroom Cluster Groupings: for Content within Grade Level or Cluster for Content Across Grade Levels Pullout from General Education Classrooms Schoolwide Enrichment Models Resource Room/Drop-In HiCap Teacher Kathleen
17
Research Process for HiCap Models
Your group will be assigned a model to research for serving HiCap students, including those who choose not to go to the magnet schools, and those who qualify in just one area. You will become our leaders in discussing that model. The model must meet the state expectations. Your group will be completing a data collection chart to help organize your research on this model. Keep in mind the needs of the students that we profiled earlier as you complete the chart. Highlight key ideas from your research to share out to the whole group Kathleen
18
Sharing of Model Research
Choose 1-2 people in your group to share out the key ideas from your model research. Take notes on your own chart from the other groups. Kathleen
19
Next Steps Continue consideration of the models with a focus on those that are most promising for Shoreline. Look at our work in collecting information from other districts. Consider how we might collect information on how our students, parents, and staff feel. Michael
