“Jan and Rey have been Editors of Respiratory Research for nearly 10 years and have long been supporters of OA and BioMed Central. They have embraced journal development and their determination didn't waver when, as happens to many successful journals that suddenly receive more submissions than previously, the IF declined. Their efforts have seen the increased IF which now ranks them 7th in their field, behind only large society titles.”

8. Section Editor of the Year Award :
Bernard Jaar, Section Editor , Epidemiology and Health Outcomes, BMC Nephrology
Bernard is always available to provide excellent support to his team of Associate Editors. He monitors each assigned manuscript's progress and his AEs performance to ensure a timely peer-review service in his section. He offers to assist AEs whenever manuscripts are stuck which has resulted in his section being very efficient. Bernard is also very eager to raise the international awareness of BMC Nephrology and is proactive with journal development duties. He has brought in a number of high quality research, review and correspondence articles to BMC Nephrology written by influential authors, and all have been highly accessed. He has also worked to recruit excellent names in the field to join the board, which has helped raise our reputation further. Bernard also highlights cited BMC Nephrology articles in American Society of Nephrology newsletters to encourage his team and to prove that the reputation of the journal is constantly growing.
