By: Katey Hicks Under the Quilt of Night By Deborah Hopkinson & James E. Ransome Social Studies Science Art Writing SOL VS. 7a (Harriet Tubman) SOL Research 4.9 (for research for activity) -Students will research Harriet Tubman and create a timeline of her life. Students will create a 3D map using crafts, noodles, paint, etc. showing the routes slaves used (based on the video from ‘Art.’ Students will create their own quilt design based on the following video (describing what each pattern meant). SOL Writing 4.7 a-k Students will create their own constellations that would represent specific things to themselves (based on the idea that slaves used the stars to guide them to freedom). -Students will write a paper about a time they showed bravery. Students will work as partners to create a story about a slave who travels to freedom using the stars, quilts, and Underground Railroad. The story will be illustrated and stapled to resemble a book. (then present to class)
