Isilon #1 Scale-Out NAS Market (Gartner & IDC)
EMC Isilon Momentum >6X NetApp’s Growth Rate In NAS 60% Y/Y GROWTH In 2012 “We highlight strength in EMC's mid-range portfolio which grew 24% y/y due to Isilon…” Largest Capacity EMC Deal In History At 28PB Isilon has been a leading innovator in scale-out NAS for more than 10 years. Isilon scale-out storage is being used today across a wide range of organizations: Data-intensive, high performance computing (HPC) environments such as Life Sciences, Electronic Design Automation, and Media & Entertainment, to name a few examples. and Traditional enterprise IT environments: where Isilon’s storage systems are used to support a variety of large-scale file-based data storage use cases including archiving, home directories and file shares; and business analytics (Hadoop). Isilon’s scale-out storage solutions are being used by over 3,500 organizations around the world today and, thanks to the success that customers have enjoyed, our business is growing rapidly…about 60 percent year over year in This is more than 6 times the growth rate of NetApp’s NAS business. Recently, we won the largest storage capacity deal in EMC history: 42 PB. This beat our previous record of 28 PB of capacity in a single in single installation (also held by Isilon). As a result of the success of our customers and our business, Isilon has been considerable industry recognition from analysts like Barclays Capital, the Gartner Group and IDC. The Cost Advantage Of Isilon
Ease Of Use And Management Simplicity Uploading Or Re-loading Data Adding New Applications Space Reclamation Managing Backup FTE Hours per TB in Use Managing Capacity Isilon storage systems are extremely easy to use. This “simple to manage” approach translates into a significant cost savings for you. A recent IDC white paper details Isilon’s cost advantages for enterprise environments. As shown in the graphic on the left, IDC investigated the relative amount of time needed by IT professionals to perform a wide range of data and storage management functions (listed on y axis) for Isilon as well as traditional storage systems. Isilon storage is easier to manage and requires less time. The study showed that with Isilon scale-out NAS, enterprises were able to increase IT productivity by 48 percent and thereby reduce OpEx (operating expenditures). Storage infrastructure
Meeting The Challenge Of Next-gen Apps Applications MOBILE ANALYTICS Enterprise @Scale FILE APPLICATIONS CLOUD Now let’s look at some of the areas where Isilon is investing to help you meet the storage challenge posed by these next generation applications and workloads. File Applications: A core capability of Isilon scale-out storage has been our long- standing ability to support file-based data that is used in a wide range of file applications. One of the ways we do this is through our built-in multi-protocol support for industry standards such as FTP, CIFS (SMB) and NFS. You can count on us to continue to maintain and enhance our capabilities in this vital area. <click for animation> Mobile: To support customers with an increasingly mobile workforce, we provide integrated support for http and, more recently, has invested in a joint solution with EMC Syncplicity to provide secure, on-premise storage solutions to support our customers who are deploying online file sharing for their business. Analytics: Many organizations today are beginning to adopt new “Big Data” analytics tools such as Hadoop to gain new insight and identify opportunities to accelerate their businesses. To support these customers, Isilon was the 1st scale-out NAS provider to introduce native support for the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). This is an area where we are continuing to invest to help you address your needs in this area. Cloud: Many organizations are looking to the “Cloud” to reduce costs and gain new efficiencies. To support these customers, Isilon is further investing in new Object data storage and enhanced REST capabilities. Now, let’s look at some of these key areas more closely. Mobility: Online File Sharing (OFS)
Key Features Integrated Online File Sharing W/EMC Syncplicity End-to-End EMC solution Isilon Scale-Out For Secure, On-premise Storage + Benefits Seamless Enterprise File Sharing Any Device, Anywhere, Anytime Access All The Benefits Of Isilon—Scale, Ease Of Use And Efficiency Earlier this year, we announced a new, integrated Online File Sharing (OFS) solution that combines EMC Syncplicity online file sharing with Isilon scale-out on-premise storage. Key Features of this new solution include: Integrated Online File Sharing with EMC Syncplicity to help organizations increase productivity and collaboration. A comprehensive, end-to-end solution from a single vendor: EMC And Isilon Scale-Out for secure, on-premise storage for your online file sharing data. Key Benefits of this new solution include: A seamless enterprise file sharing that meets the needs of end-users while also meeting the data protection and security requirements of Corporate IT Convenient “any device, anywhere, anytime” access to file data to increase productivity As well as all the benefits that Isilon provides for file data storage including: scalability, ease of use, resiliency and unmatched efficiency.

Next-Gen Analytics HDFS Key Features Hadoop 2.0 Native HDFS Support
Pivotal HD Support Simultaneous HDFS 1.0 & HDFS 2.0 Support Distributed NameNode MOBILE ANALYTICS HDFS Benefits Last year, EMC Isilon became the 1st and only scale-out NAS storage platform to incorporate native support for the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). This year, we have extended our capabilities to help support your use of the “next generation” of big data analytics technologies. Key Features Building on our native support for HDFS 1.0, recently we have incorporated native support for HDFS 2.0, the next generation of Apache Hadoop. We are also investing to provide support for the Pivotal HD and Cloudera CDH4 Hadoop distributions To provide you with maximum flexibility with your data analytics initiatives, Isilon storage can now also provide simultaneous HDFS 1.0 and HDFS 2.0 support Another key advantage that we provide for Hadoop is that with Isilon, the Hadoop NameNode is distributed across all of the nodes in an Isilon cluster. This provides a highly resilient data protection and eliminates any single point of failure issues. Other key Benefits of using Isilon for your big data analytics include: Isilon support for open Hadoop applications And Improved total cost of ownership (TCO) as a result of Isilon’s unmatched efficiency with over 80% storage utilization and overall ease of management. Another important, related consideration is that by using Isilon instead of a direct- attached storage (DAS) infrastructure, you can avoid the need to invest in a separate, standalone infrastructure for Hadoop that requires additional IT management and data center resources. Instead, with Isilon, you can easily run your analytics on the same storage platform for your file data storage. Basically, you get a Hadoop storage infrastructure for ‘free’ when you leverage your Isilon system that you are already using to store other file data. This also helps you greatly improve your “time to insight” because you can avoid the time and resource-consuming ETL task to import and export to/from a standalone Hadoop environment that cannot interface with your IT environment. Support For Open Hadoop Applications No Single Point Of Failure Improved TCO
